We’re bringing a new-look live music event to Plymouth Hoe next summer.
‘Ocean City Sounds’ will build on the huge success of MTV Crashes Plymouth, which has seen the likes of Little Mix, Rudimental, Jess Glynne, Kaiser Chiefs and most recently world number one DJ Martin Garrix wow thousands on Plymouth Hoe over the last four years.
It marks the next step in the growth of an annual music event for the city, with the Council preparing to carry out a formal procurement process to get the highest quality and highest profile event possible in the lead-up to Mayflower 2020 and beyond.
For 2018 we will continue our relationship with MTV under a new format, MTV Presents. Next year’s partnership will see us work with MTV as our main media partner, benefiting from the strength of MTV’s marketing and media support whilst giving us control in choosing, booking and announcing artists. MTV will also produce a TV highlights show as part of the contract.
Councillor Glenn Jordan, Cabinet Member for Culture, said: “We’re incredibly excited to be delivering another world-class live music event in 2018. The last four years of MTV Crashes Plymouth have showcased our city’s ability to put on major music events and we’re delighted to be working with MTV again in 2018. We want this summer’s shows to be bigger and better than ever before.”
Next year’s event will see one night of contemporary chart-topping artists and a second night of classic and retro artists to appeal to a wider audience, opening the event up for more people to enjoy fantastic live music on Plymouth Hoe.
To reflect the artist line-up there will be a slight increase of price for next year’s event with tickets costing £25 (with a £2.50 booking fee), offering great value for an event of this scale.
As well as providing spectacular entertainment for local people, the annual summer music events have had significant economic benefit for Plymouth, generating an additional £1.26 million in economic impact in 2017.
Further details and announcements of artists are expected in the coming weeks.
